Obituary

Pauline Johnson Pittman, 91, formerly of Dunbar, entered eternal rest on May 8, 2018.

She was born on August 13, 1926, to the late Della Elizabeth Johnson and James Albert Johnson of Dunbar.

Following graduation from Union District (Dunbar High School) in 1944, Pauline remained a lifelong resident of Dunbar. Most recently, due to health reasons, she was a resident at Bellaire at Devonshire in Scott Depot. Pauline was an employee of Sears Roebuck and Co. and later enjoyed serving as a volunteer for Thomas Memorial Hospital for many years. Her favorite pastime and hobby were baking and cooking for others. The kitchen was her most favorite room in the house. She was an active member at Nautilus with her friend Fay Jack. They loved to sneak a biscuit and coffee from McDonalds following their workout.

She was an active and faithful member of Dunbar United Methodist Church and served Christ by participating on many church committees. Pauline especially enjoyed working with the Boys and Girls Fellowships and valued her time as an "Acolyte Mother" for many years. She maintained a card ministry in which she kept up-to-date special occasion information for many people. Her most rewarding job, however, was delivering flowers from the church altar, following services, to hospital patients of the church and those unable to attend due to illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Joe V. Pittman; sisters, Myrtle Wilson, Mable Haynes, and Juanita Withrow; and brother, Charles Dennis Johnson.

Pauline is survived by her son, Stephen V. Pittman (Mary) of Fort Motte, SC; daughter, Beverly P. Green (Harry) of St. Albans; grandchildren, Harry "Jody" Green (Shannon) of Charleston and Andrew Green (Bonnie) of Roanoke, VA; great grandchildren, Taylor Green of Charleston and Tyler Green of Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by her Godson, Ralph "Butch" Currey (Nancy) of Ridgewood, NJ.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bellaire at Devonshire and HospiceCare for all of their wonderful care as they frequently went above and beyond in their care of Pauline.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Pauline's memory to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., West, Charleston, WV 25387-2536; www.hospicecarewv.org, or to Gideons International, PO Box 7124, Charleston, WV 25313 for Bibles.

A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Dunbar United Methodist Church with Rev. Erin Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.

Arrangements are in care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
