Peggy Thaxton Davis, 79, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, after a long illness of Parkinsons' Disease and dementia.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother , great grandmother and friend.
Peggy was an employee of Union Carbide, C&P Telephone Co., Millers Animal Clinic and the Federal Coal Company. She also worked for two summers at the General Store in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. She loved traveling in her camper throughout West Virginia and the entire United States. She loved animals, especially her most recent dog, "Ellie Mae."
Peggy was a distinguished seamstress her entire life. She was a lifelong resident of Tyler Mountain and was a life time member of the McKinnon Presbyterian Church, Tyler Mountain. She attended Tyler Elementary School, Dunbar Junior High and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1949, where she played in the marching band and was a majorette.
Peggy was active in forming and volunteering with the K-9 Search and Rescue Organization in the Kanawha Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. H. Davis, Jr., parents, Doyle and Bessie Thaxton, brothers, Delbert Thaxton of Tyler Mountain and Leslie Thaxton of Franklin, Indiana.
Surviving her are Margie (Mike) Salmons, Judy (Dana) Fierbaugh. Also surviving are Bill (Glenda) Davis and Missy (Greg) Koontz. She is also survived by grandchildren, Mikki (Jeff) Keller, Monica Walker, Mendi Walker (Chris) and Wes Fierbaugh of Charleston, Cody Fierbaugh of Richmond, Va; great grandchildren, Jimmy and Samantha Keller, Ryan and Ryleigh Meadows and Jamie Walker.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with a memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. The service will be officiated by Minister Donnie Chapman. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m., Friday, March 9, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
The family would like to acknowledge their gratefulness to the nursing staff at Valley Center for the loving care and kindness shown during her stay.
A "special" thank you to her granddaughter, Mikki Keller, for the countless hours spent by her bedside.
