Peter James Carter, 77, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

He was born on October 7, 1945, in Fayette County, to the late Maryland Carter Mosley.

Peter was a high-pressure welder and mechanic at John Amos Power Plant for 35 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife and many friends. He always had a smile on his face and wanted everyone to know and love our savior, Jesus Christ, just as he did.

In addition to his mother, Peter is preceded in death by his son, James M. Carter; his brothers Charles L. Mosley, Clinton R. Mosley, Clifford W. Mosley and Parker J. Mosley.

Peter is survived by his wife of 23 years, Anita Vermillion of South Charleston; his daughter, Terry Carter of Agneu, Maryland; his sister, Maryland Mosley of Dunbar; daughter-in-law, Victoria Carter of Dunbar; granddaughter, Taylor Carter of Atlanta, GA; grandsons, James M. Carter Jr. of Dunbar, Mattison Agneu III of Maryland, Adrian Agneu of Maryland, Antoine Agneu of Maryland; great-grandson, Myzari D. Martin of Atlanta, GA; great-granddaughter, Bliss M. Strong of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter, Amber Mace of South Charleston; step-son, Jason Mace of San Antonio, TX; step-granddaughters, Payton Austin of South Charleston, McKinley Bonds of South Charleston, Stella Mace of San Antonio, TX, Sadie Mace of San Antonio, TX and Emma Mace of Antonio, TX.

Peter's wife and family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, texts, visits and the many prayers for him during his short hospital stay.

There are no services scheduled at this time.
