Phyllis Jean Hickman Craft, 91, passed away January 18, 2024 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia after a brief illness.

She was born in South Charleston, WV, a daughter to Eugene Everett Hickman and Grace Evelyn Hickman.

Phyllis graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School. She enjoyed and reminisced fondly of her time spent in White Sulphur Springs with her family, where she played under her favorite umbrella tree and visited the Old White golf course at the Greenbrier Resort with her grandfather. She was an active church parishioner. Phyllis took devotion every evening, and constantly prayed for her family and those she loved. She was a skilled cook and homemaker, who would often provide nourishment for those in their time of need. Phyllis and Leon shared their life together for 72 years, where they bowled on a mixed doubles team and in tandem, gardened and canned the vegetables they grew.  She enjoyed sharing the fruits of their labor with many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Delores Chester of Virginia and son Michael Wayne Craft of California.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Leon Junior Craft; daughters, Vicki Pendell (Butch) and Sonia Kinder (Michael) all of Charleston, WV; brother, Adrian Hickman (Kitty) of Virginia; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Craft of California; grandchildren, Melissa Chandler, Joey Craft, Bryan and Brittany Cummings, Amanda Dawson, Blake Kinder, Allison Mills, Keegan Ward, and Lindsey Young; along with seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens in the West Virginia Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Jesse Waggoner officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the CAMC Foundation or Hubbard Hospice House.
