Phyllis Marie Higginbotham, 76, of Black Betsy, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2015 after a short illness. She was at home and had family by her side.
She was a Christian and a 30 year member of Upton Creek Community Church. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to the work of the Lord and to her family. She had been a member of "The Master's Touch" Gospel group and was involved in a prison ministry. She was an active member of the Kanawha County Textbook Controversy.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Harmon; parents Harry and Elizabeth Harper; brothers and sisters, Walter "Buck" Harper, Katherine Conrad, Dorothy Harper, Irene Aldridge, Jo Milam, Jr. Harper, Sue Templeton and David Harper.
She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Higginbotham; sister, Jenny Stanley and husband, Larry, of Wilmington, Ohio; daughters, Joy Graley and husband, Greg, of Poca, Marilyn Stone and husband, Jim, of South Charleston; grandchildren, Elysa Graley of Poca, Destinee Stone of South Charleston, Gabe Stone, his wife, Shay, and soon to be great-grandson, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; step-children, Michael Higginbotham and his wife, Willie, of Black Betsy, Kenneth Higginbotham and his wife, Dorothy, of Black Betsy, Sharon Duncan and her husband, Mark, of Indiana, Jane Daniels and her husband, David, of Nitro, Eddie Higginbotham and his wife, Marcia, of Nitro, Lorri Reed and her husband, Jerry of St. Albans; step-grandchildren, Wally, Michelle, Chris, Bobby, Kert, Stacey, Meredith, Jessie, Cody, Amy, Bradley, Johnathan, Christina and Lauren; and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Nagarajan for the special care he gave Phyllis and for the kindness he showed to both her and her family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Charles Shelton and Pastor David Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 26, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
