Phyllis
Lewis
October 2, 1935 – December 15, 2016
Phyllis Landers Lewis, 81, of Nitro, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016 surrounded by many family members and friends, following a short illness.
Born October 2 nd , 1935, in Charleston, WV, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Earl Eugene Landers and Hazel Landers Beaver. She joined Charleston First Church of the Nazarene in July of 1947 and worked there as Office Administrator for 53 years. She was very involved at her church – she taught several Sunday school classes over the years and had quite the heart for young people and loved to watch them grow in the Lord.
Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School where she attended many class reunions up until her death. God has always been a part of her life and she thanked God for blessing her family. Her legacy was to make her family laugh and to help the young people at the church. She was a very Godly woman who will be missed by many. Phyllis will be remembered as always having a smile on her face and a laugh to be shared. Her family will hold on to those memories tightly. She always enjoyed her weekly visits from her great-grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Albert Ross Lewis, IV (Charlene), Debra Caltrider (Gerald), and Diana McGinnis; brother, Lester Landers (Stella); sister, Clara Fore; sister-in-law, Patsy Shinault; eight grandchildren, Jason Caltrider, Michele McPherson (Andy), Jonathan Caltrider (Brandy), Sean McGinnis (Darcie), Jarrod Caltrider (Breana), Derek Lewis (Sonya), Rockford Lewis, and Renee Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Trenton Lewis, Sean Patrick McGinnis, Aubree Melanne McPherson, with two great-grandchildren on the way; her beloved dog, Angel; and close family friend, John Moody.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Ross Lewis, III; her grandson Albert Ross Lewis, V; and her sister, Helen Lorene Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19, at Charleston First Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Randy Lanham, Allen Dean, Dr. C. Harold Smith, and Jarrod Caltrider officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, at the church and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Family Life Center at Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, 200 Park Ave, Charleston, WV 25302.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
