Phyllis Gay Scarberry, of St. Albans, peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 14, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Johnson; brother, Tom Johnson; and father, Happy Johnson.
Phyllis was married 51 years to her loving, devoted husband and caregiver, Frank Scarberry, Sr. Also left behind our her son, Frank Scarberry Jr. of St. Albans (grandchildren, Brian and Kristina); daughter, Kimberly Fisher of St. Albans (grandchildren, Tessa and Tyler); three great-grandchildren, Xaiver, Brayden, and Braxton; sisters, Virginia Mellinger and husband Gail, Margaret Sams and husband Sam, Betty Slawter, and husband Bob; brothers, Larry Johnson and wife Mary, Jerry Johnson and wife Sue, Bob Johnson and wife Laura, and Dave Johnson and wife Bonnie.
Phyllis loved having a vegetable garden and flowers. She loved cooking big dinners for family and friends, and having backyard picnics. She always said that she was so blessed with a large family; hers and Frank's. She also said she was so blessed with a wonderful church family and good neighbors like, Harry and Joyce Smith, Doug and Dorothy Arbaugh, Doc and Barbara Bush, and Bill Shadrick.
The family sends a special thanks to her respiratory team, which consisted of her nieces, Sheri Johnson and Stacey Middleton.
A memorial celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Rev. Stephen Neese, of the St. Albans United Pentecostal Church, and Rev. Harold Harman officiating. A graveside service will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Friends and family may gather 30 minutes prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
