Phyllis Jean Steele, 89, a life-long resident of Dunbar, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at Valley Center Nursing Home surrounded by the love of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and George Strobel; brothers, Bud, Richard, Rex, Billy, Larry, Michael; sisters, Yvonne, Pauline, Patricia, Shirley, Earlene; and her oldest son, William Douglas Steele.

She is survived by her children, Jill (TR) Beaver, and Tim (Brianna) Steele; sister, Jackie Settle of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Brook Steele, Travis (Lisa) Beaver, Brittany (Kenny) Hedrick, and Dana (Shay) Beaver; niece, Sandy (Danny) Blair. Phyllis adored her great grandchildren, Caroline Fulknier, Silas and Jozalyn Beaver, and twin girls, Stella and Pyper Taylor.

Phyllis retired as a produce manager from Tom's grocery store where she was best known for her impeccable fruit baskets, and outgoing attitude. She had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Brown United Methodist Church. Over the years, she had become very involved with the church and cherished her relationships with her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was an avid gardener, and dedicated most of her life to the Dunbar Beautification League in hopes to make the city bloom with beauty. Phyllis was also a member of the Dunbar Women's Club, where she volunteered many hours of her time. She spent countless hours helping others by fixing meals, or lending a helping hand.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Valley Center and Hospice House for their caring support in her final days.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 11 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brown United Methodist Church, or Dunbar Women's Club.
