Obituary

Regina Powell - Richardson
September 8, 1951 – June 21, 2025

Regina Powell-Richardson was born on September 8, 1951, to Audra Smoot-Dillard and Curtis Davis. Regina's life was richly shaped by the love, faith, and steady presence of her "daddy", Thomas J. Dillard. His quiet strength and devotion left a lasting impression on her heart and planted the seeds of Regina's lifelong Christian faith. She often recalled his stories - like how God kept gas in his big 'ole Chrysler as he traveled 53 miles to and from work.

Regina's early education took place in Madison, WV. In 1963, the family moved to Kanawha County where she attended Marmet Junior High, and made history as the school's first Black majorette. She graduated from East Bank High School in 1969 and continued her studies at West Virginia State College.

Regina led a quiet, peaceful life centered around her faith and family. She often spoke of the childhood, memories filled with warmth, such as Friday nights gathering pop bottles with her brother Gene to buy ice cream, and the sound of her mother playing the piano while singing "You Can't Beat God's Giving."

Regina made the decision to follow Christ early in life and was deeply involved in ministry. She served for many years in the Children's Ministry at the Institute Church of the Nazarene, later becoming a greeter and a member of the Finance Ministry Team at Maranatha Fellowship in Saint Albans, WV. Eventually, she returned to her home church in Institute, where her faith continued to flourish.

Professionally, Regina worked for eleven years at Consolidated Natural Gas and went on to work at West Virginia State University, where she served faithfully for 34 years in the payroll and benefits office. Regina was admired for her exceptional memory, leadership, and meticulous attention to detail. Her professionalism and integrity earned her the deep respect of her colleagues and the campus community.

In November 2024, Regina married her longtime love, Reverend Gregory Richardson, a union that stood as a beautiful testament to the power of prayer and God's perfect timing.

Regina is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Rev. Gregg Richardson; daughter, Deborah Davis-Cromer (Keith); grandson, Kendric; son, John Powell IV (Monique); grandchildren, John V, Nataya, Nathan, and Kendall. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, Audrana Austin (Maynard), twin brother Curtis "Gene" Davis (Tia), Gary Davis (Yvonne), and Terri Outlaw (Edward). She is also survived by her bonus daughter Crystal McGill (Josh), and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Regina's life was a testimony to quiet strength, unwavering faith, and enduring love. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Institute Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Melvin Miller officiating with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Family will welcome visitors beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
