Renate
King
November 3, 1939 – February 23, 2025
Mrs. Renate King, 85, of Charleston WV/Berlin Germany, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at CAMC General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on November 3, 1939 in the Czech Republic (Former Czechoslovakia) to the late Margarete Ritter and Werner Jansch.
Renate's life was of creativity, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. She had an extraordinary ability to make something out of nothing, whether through her nurturing spirit, resourcefulness, or simple acts of kindness.
She encouraged everyone around her to do their best in all that they did leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and a commitment to making life beautiful. Some of mom's greatest joys was swimming, crocheting, and embroidery ("if she ever gifted you one, then you know"…) which she used to express her creativity and warmth. Her skilled hands created "beautiful, intricate pieces", that were/are treasured by all.
Renate's talent for crafting was a reflection of her care and attention to detail in all areas of life. She also found great joy in playing bingo, where her laughter and enthusiasm brightened every game. Mom was known for her friendly spirit and love of community and bingo was her way of connecting with others, bringing a sense of fun and togetherness, whenever she went.
Professionally, she was a skilled draftsmen at a notable Charleston architectural firm where her precision and attention to detail contributed to the success of several major projects. Mom's work ethic, creativity and collaborative spirit earned her the respect and admiration of her family and colleagues.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, SSGT William B. King retired USAF; and brother, Klaus "Dieter" Jansch.
Renate is survived by her sons, Jurgen Stinsky (Beate) of Berlin Germany, Ronald King of Richmond VA., Gerald King (Arleen) of Charleston, WV; sister, Ursula Graves of Colorado Springs Co.; 10 grandchildren, five great- grandchildren; special daughter, Jacqueline Smith; and special son, Anthony Thompson.
As we reflect on mother's (Renate's) life, we are reminded of the beauty in life's simple joys whether through a hand-stitched piece of embroidery, the thrill of a bingo game or the love and care she shared so freely with others. May we carry her spirit with us, striving to live each day with the same dedication, creativity, and joy she brought to the world.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and community for their care and support during this difficult time!
