Richard Keith Bernard, 49 of Dunbar passed away, Sunday, April 4th 2010 at home following a courageous struggle with cancer.
Born in South Charleston on June 2, 1960, he was the son of Charles and Sue Bernard. Rick is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Chuck and Ron Bernard. Rick is survived by his sister Becky (Steve) McLaughlin of Buckhannon, and special nephews Ryan Bernard and Matthew McLaughlin. He is also survived by numerous family members and friends.
Rick graduated from Dunbar High School in 1978 where he was the Student Body President and a member of the Football, Wrestling and Baseball teams. He was a lifelong Hillside Ram and enjoyed golfing and participating in annual golf trips to Oak Island, N.C. Rick was an ongoing student at West Virginia State University, where he was pursuing his Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Rick was employed by Oval Construction Management as the Office Manager/CFO, in Charleston.
Rick was a member of a world-wide fellowship that commits itself to serving others. In finding a new way to live, he showed his gratitude through sharing this message of hope, with a kind heart and loving spirit. Rick's dedication showed through his commitment and willingness to serve others. Rick's thoughtfulness and trust worthiness will be missed and cherished by his friends.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar, with Pastor Loretta Isaiah officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
