Richard "Dick" Carpenter, 75, of Dunbar, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Charleston, the son of Hestel "Corky" Carpenter and Elizabeth Carpenter Brewer.

Dick was a United States Army veteran and lifelong employee and retiree from UnionCarbide/RP/Bayer Institute. He had a huge heart and always tried to help those less fortunate, especially children. Dick regularly supported charities such as St. Jude, Salvation Army and Toys for Tots.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Hoover Carpenter; brothers, Thomas Carpenter and Ken Carpenter of Ft. Collins, CO; and step-father, Denver Brewer.

Dick will be greatly missed and is survived by his son, Richard W. Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Janet Carpenter Runion (Bobby) of Sissonville; and several cousins and many friends.

The family would like to extend a special "Thanks You" to his closest neighbors. Without you he would not have had the quality of life that he did. You each personified what a neighbor should be and he loved you all. The family continues to appreciate you so very much!

Dick will be laid to rest in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville. Per his request, there will be no services.
