Richard Leon "Butch" Davison, of Charleston, West Virginia was called home to be with the Lord after a battle with a long term illness on May 18, 2023 at the age of 76.
Richard was born in the Bronx, New York on November 8, 1946 to Juanita Lewis and Earnest Davison. He was the oldest of two sons. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School, served in the US Air Force, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He went on to work for and retire from Monsanto-Flexsys Chemical Plant. He also was a head baseball coach for Kanawha City Little League for several years.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his beautiful wife and confidant of 50 years, Ruby. He was a very pleasant and humble man who had a friendly, outgoing personality never meeting a stranger. He loved his brother, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was called Paw-Paw by many who loved and adored him. He was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports with his family and friends. He also loved working the daily crossword puzzles from the newspaper. He was a die hard LA Dodgers, LA Chargers, and Ohio State University fan. He loved going fishing, and playing bid whist.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Sales; parents, Earnest Davison Sr. and Phyllis Juanita Davison; grandparents, Samuel and Inez Lewis; and special aunt Christine Dickerson.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Ruby C. Davison of Charleston; four daughters, Janice Fitch, Tawanda Davison, Erika Gaither all of Charleston, and Mia Davison of Woodstock, GA; one son, Pierre Davison of Woodstock, GA; a brother, Earnest Davison Jr. of Charleston; 5 grandchildren, Richard Sales, Eric Davison, Derrel Gilliam and Derrick Gaither all of Charleston, and Ryan Davison of Canton, GA; 11 great-grandchildren, one niece, and a host of family and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church in Charleston. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
