Richard D. Johnson (Dick), 71, of Dunbar and formerly of Nitro, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2015.
Richard was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School. He served his country in U. S. Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Richard served as the Head Elder of Freedom Christian Center for 10 years. He was also a part of Freedom Ministries of Charlotte, NC under Apostle Dean Melton. He retired from Hilit Tool Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria J. Johnson; grandson, James Johnson; parents, Alex (AM) and Lyda Johnson; brothers, John Short, Sr. and Walter Short; sister, Sarah Starcher; and nephew, John Short, Jr.
Richard is survived by his children, Courtenay Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, and Jaime Myers all of Dunbar; godson, John Plant of Huntington; grandchildren, Laken Johnson of Dunbar, Christian, Reagan, and Logan Myers all of Winfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church with Pastor Harley Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Moss Chapel Cemetery, Jackson County.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church.
