Obituary

Richard Lewis "Rick" Songer, 64, of Charleston, joined his son Dustin in Heaven on September 25, 2022.

He was born on October 2, 1957 in Charleston, WV.

Rick joined the Navy when he was just out of high school and served his country for six years. He was a welder and heavy equipment mechanic by trade. He enjoyed watching WVU and Dallas Cowboy football.

In addition to his son Dustin Songer, he was preceded in death by his parents, Fredric Fields and Anne Harper Fields; brothers, Roger Songer, Anthony Fields, Robert Fields and Samuel Fields; companion, Molly Copen; and his beloved dogs.

Left to mourn Rick is his daughter, Amanda Songer; three grandchildren, Destyni and Daniel Kochan and Kaiah Cobb; his wife, Elizabeth Blankenship all of Moyock, NC; brother, Kevin Fields and his wife Cheryl of St. Albans; sisters, Phyllis Harrah and her husband John of Charleston and Donna Smith and her husband Brian of Kenna; life-long friends, Tim Keeley, Carl Gunoe and Sam Sloan all of Charleston; friends, Seth and Nancy Copen of Charleston; aunts, Charlotte Williams, Donna Weistiener, Peggy Johnson all of Charleston and Mary Jo Harper of CT; uncle, Walt Harper of South Charleston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Rick will be held with full military honors to lay his earthly body to rest in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Friends and family will be notified.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethel Baptist Church Pantry, 640 Pleasant Valley Road, Given, WV 25245.
