Richard Albert "Dickie" McCown, 87, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Hubbard Hospice House.
He was a truck driver for McCown Meat Packing Co. and was a US Navy veteran of WW II, having served on the USS South Dakota at Pearl Harbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gohean and Hallie McCown, wife, Marie McCown, son, Robert Lee "Bobby" McCown, daughter, Ruth Virginia McCown, brother, Harry McCown, sisters, Betty McCown, Dorothy Berry, Hilda Harper and by a special friend, Josephine Coen.
Surviving are his sons, John Ray McCown and his wife, Carlene of Beaumont, Tx and Joseph "Joey" McCown and his wife, Linda of Port Arthur, Tx; brother, Thomas McCown; grandsons, Scott McCown, Eric McCown, and Brandon McCown; one great granddaughter, Ashley McCown. He is also survived by his special extended family, David and Patti Coen, Boyd and Rosellen Clendenin, Roger and Lynn Coen, Ronnie Coen and Della Lowe. Also surviving are extended grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 25, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial with military rites will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
