Richard A. "Rick" Songer, 56, of Charleston, peacefully passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at CAMC-General Hospital.
He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict and was a native of South Charleston. He was a retired painter and general contractor and told everyone he knew that he thought he was made to be a papaw.
Mr. Songer was preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. Songer; daughter, Vicki Jackson; parents, Harold Ervin and Ella Mae Songer and by his brother, Harold Eugene Songer.
Surviving are his daughters, Richelle Songer and Loretta Jackson of South Charleston; brothers, Daniel Songer of Charleston and Roger Songer of North Carolina; sisters, Joyce Wills of St. Albans, Shirley Snodgrass and Sharon Justice of Charleston. Also surviving are grandchildren, Dashaun Songer, Tevin Pinkett, Mason Pinkett, Chris Jackson, Gary Jackson, Eric Jackson, Darren Jackson and Nicole Rodriguez.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Adkins Cemetery, Charleston.
