Richard Lee Yates, Sr., 78, of Dunbar, passed away May 30, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Nitro. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran of seven years serving in WW II and the Korean War. He worked for Kanawha Manufacturing for 32 years. He retired from Mouldergraph Corp. after 10 years of service.
He gave his love and knowledge of the game of baseball to the youth of Dunbar for a number of years, he himself was an avid player of the game in the Charleston area.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorena Truman, father, Charles Edwin Yates of Ripley, his brothers, Charles J. Yates and Joseph Noel Truman of Charleston.
Mr. Yates is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma L. "Mary" Yates; son, Richard L. Yates, Jr. and his wife, Terri of St. Albans; daughters, Lisa A. Lane and her husband, Ron of Arnoldsburg and Molly J. Hylton and her husband, Darrell of Hurricane; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers, Max Yates of Sioux City, Ia. and Neil Truman of
Charleston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Dunbar, with Father Manuel Gelido officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Friends may call two hours prior to the Mass at the church.
