Robert C.
Byard
July 2, 1952 – April 30, 2018
Robert "Bob" C. Byard, formerly of McMechen, passed away in his sleep, in his own house, and his own bed, in Dunbar, on April 30, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born July 2, 1952, in Glen Dale. He was raised in McMechen and was a 1970 graduate of John Marshall High School, Glen Dale, and subsequently received an Associate's Degree from Belmont Technical College, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Bob served his country in the US Air Force from 1970 to 1974 and was a very proud veteran of the Viet Nam War. Bob was a former employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Benwood Plant, and current employee of Klaus-Meter and Pump Company, Dunbar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Byard and Joan C. (McCardle) Ullom, and his step-father, James L. Ullom, all of McMechen.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert Christopher Byard II; his grandson, Robert "Bert" Christopher Byard III; and Bert's Mother, Jessica Parks, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; brother and sisters, G. Douglas Byard of Gainesville, VA, Elisa Ullom of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Elisabeth (Beth Ullom) Velas of Hilliard, OH, and Patricia (Tricia Ullom) Davila of Bristow, VA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, that all loved him dearly.
As per Bob's wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be spread in the New River Gorge. A memorial service is being planned and will be held at a future date, time, and place to be determined.
Bob's family wishes to extend its most sincere gratitude to the case workers and staff of Kanawha County Hospice Care, for their outstanding care during these past six months.
Also a special thanks to his close friends, Johnny and Cindy Booth and Karen Hoffman, his employer, Mike Holley, and coworkers at Klaus-Meter and Pump for their support and assistance over these final months. True friends as these are one of life's greatest treasures!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Bob's memory, made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard West, Charleston, WV 25387-2536.
Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
