Robert E. DiPietro, Jr., of Dunbar, died May 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 12, 1958, in Trenton, N.J., and was the son of Helen M. DiPietro and the late Robert E. DiPietro, Sr.
Robert had an avid interest in trains, construction and trucks. Robert overcame many obstacles to fulfill his dream of being a volunteer firefighter. He served as a volunteer in Kingwood, Texas, Mooresville, N.C., Winfield and most recently on the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department until 2009.
Robert was a good friend and neighbor, and was always willing to help. He enjoyed travel, especially train travel, but, his greatest pleasure was spending time with friends and family, and visiting places he enjoyed. He loved eating breakfast out, and was a regular at Hardings Restaurant, where he made many friends. He was an active member of Christ the King Church in Dunbar, and enjoyed his church family.
Robert is survived by his mother, Helen M. DiPietro, of Dunbar; his sisters, Helen (Richard) Snyder of Dunbar, Dawn (John) French, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Alicia DiPietro (Bruce Foster) of Charleston; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Daniel) Brainard, Michael (Amanda) Snyder, Jennifer French and Melissa French; and great-nephew, Declan Brainard. He is also survived by his god-mother, Marie Radice of Trenton, N.J., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be sorely missed by his family.
The family would like to thank the staff at CAMC Memorial and CAMC Cancer Center, who provided care for Robert. We would especially like to thank Dr. Joshua Lohri for his care and assistance to Robert and the family. We would also like to thank CVS Pharmacy in Dunbar and all of the staff at Kanawha Hospice, who worked with Robert. Special thanks to Hospice nurse, Mark Withrow, social worker, Lynn Halstead and counselor, Pete Thompson, whose help and compassion for Robert and the family meant so much.
