Robert Eugene Smith, Jr. of Dunbar passed away on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.

He was born in Albany, Georgia on March 19, 1954, graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1972 at Point Pleasant High School. He graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor's degree in Business Management; decades later he earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from West Virginia State College.

Robert was preceded in death by father, Robert Eugene Smith, Sr.

He is survived by his children, Andrew Smith of South Charleston, Amanda Smith of Huntington, and Emily Myers (Mathew) of Columbus, OH; mother, Joyce Marie Smith of Hurricane; brothers, Richard Smith (Janet) of Brunswick, GA, Michael Smith (Cynthia) of St. Albans, and Charles Smith (Terri) of Milton; sister, Sandy Thompson of Red House; grandchildren, Isaiah Smith, Aaliyah Smith, Lilly Myers, and Gavin Myers; companion, Lynn Copley of Hurricane; and a host of family and friends.

Even though he was disabled Robert's spirit could not be contained, he was always out and about the Kanawha Valley going and doing. He was a very independent and strong individual; throughout his entire life despite all his obstacles he maintained a sense of humor and eternal optimism.

Robert was a wonderful and selfless father and grandfather, a kind spirit, who was always there to lend an ear, and could be counted on to be there for his family. He made good use of his time while he was here.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 US Rt. 60, Hurricane with Pastor Kevin Prevett officiating.
