Obituary

Robert Lee "Rob" Fields, 61, of Charleston, passed away on March 19, 2022 of an acute illness.

The way he always lived in the moment and made instant friends wherever he went was a trait that served as a lesson to all. Rob was always willing to help others and loved using his culinary skills to feed everyone around him. Because of his charisma, his neighbors would often refer to him as "the Mayor". Rob enjoyed fishing, history and discussing current events.

Due to Rob's love of cooking, he earned a degree in the culinary arts. He went on to be an executive chef, opening restaurants throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Fields and Anne Harper Fields; and his brothers, Roger Songer, Tony Fields and Sam Fields.

Rob will be sadly missed by his son, Andrew Shaffer of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Autumn (Joey) Meadows; grandson, Vinny and his step-siblings; adopted daughters, Kelsey (Brandon) Williams of Charleston and Brandi Betts Morgantown; brothers, Kevin (Cheryl) Fields of St. Albans and Rick Songer of Elkview; sisters, Donna (Brian) Smith of Kenna and Phyllis (John) Harrah of Charleston. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews that adored him.

Rob's wish was to have his ashes sprinkled into the Elk River where he spent countless days fishing with his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In honor of Rob, donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Food Pantry at Bethel Baptist Church, 640 Pleasant Valley Road, Given, WV 25245.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
