Obituary

Robert Neil Harden 93, of South Charleston, peacefully passed away at Hubbard Hospice House on June 11, 2022.

He was born on December 19, 1928, to Hearl Neil and Helen Florence Ryan Harden.

Bob served his country in the Navy during WWII, enlisting at the age of 17.

He married the love of his life, Mary Helen Kirk Harden on August 24, 1950. Together Bob and Mary raised three successful children, Stephen Neil, Robert N. II and Cynthia.

Bob gave freely of his time and talents to his family, friends and community. He was an active member of the Ripley Jaycees during the 1960's, was named Jaycee's Man Of the Year in 1964, and served as President in 1965. He was President of Ripley's Junior Chamber of Commerce and President of the annual Rhododendron Arts and Crafts Festival held at the West Virginia State Capitol.

He worked for Union Carbide, Kaiser Aluminum, Dickerson and Davis and retired from McJunkin Corporation in 1992; after twenty-seven years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Neil Harden; sisters, Mary Lou Bills, Jean George, JoAnn Walker; and brother, Tim Harden.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Kirk Harden; son, Robert II (Debbie); daughter, Cynthia Carson; six grandchildren, Jared Holley (Angie), Robert III (Erika), Melissa Velesco (Derek), Anthony Carson, Nicholas Harden, and Hannah Carson; and eight great-grandchildren.

In January of 2018, Bob and his family were blessed with a great-grandson, his namesake, Robert Neil Harden, IV. Four generations in 90 years.

A joint memorial service to celebrate the lives of Bob and Mary Harden, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, at the First Baptist Church, South Charleston with Pastor Jody Pistore officiating. Inurnment will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, with Military Honors.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
