Robert "Bobby"
L. Patterson
September 1, 2025
Robert L. Patterson, lovingly known as "Bobby" went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, surrounded by his devoted family. He was 81 years old.
Born in 1944, Bobby lived a life marked by faith, family, and dedication. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later worked in the coal mine at Winifred Mining and at Charleston Job Corps, where he was affectionately called "Pops". His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Bobby was a faithful member of Passageway Tabernacle of Praise where he served with love and humility. His favorite message to share was the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, reflecting his deep trust in God's power to deliver. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and the way he made others feel safe and protected. To his family and friends, he was "Bob the Builder"— a man who always wore a hat whether he was inside or out, Bob never liked a cold head. He loved deeply, provided faithfully, and led by example. Though a man of few words, when he spoke, his words carried wisdom, strength, and faith that guided those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmit C. Patterson, Sr. and Thelma May Patterson; his brother, Mason N. Patterson; his sisters, Maestella Blaney, Linda S. Taylor, and Debra Kay Patterson; along with his grandparents, William E. and Katie Terrell.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Claudette; his children, Anthony, Leigh Anne' (Michael), and Robert; his beloved grandchildren, Shay, Ebony, Michaela, Josh, Carson, Lincoln, and Tre; and his brothers, Emmit Patterson (Bonita), James E. Patterson (Stella), Donald Ray Patterson (Ginger), and Larry Patterson, all of West Virginia. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Select Specialty Hospital for their care and compassion during Bobby's final days.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, Bobby's legacy of love, faith, and devotion will continue to live on the hearts of all who knew him.
A message from his loving wife, Claudette:
"BE ASSURED, MY LOVE…. I WILL SEE YOU 'IN THE MORNING.'"
A celebration of Bobby's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Interment will follow at Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
