Obituary

Robert Gray Nunley, 76, of Charleston, passed away Sept. 7, 2006, at his home.

He was a graduate of Marshall University where he received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees. He received his Doctorate Degree in Biology from West Virginia University. Mr. Nunley began is teaching career in Greenbrier County, having taught at Williamsburg and Crichton High Schools. He taught at Gallia Academy in Gallipolis before teaching at WVU while completing work on his Doctorate Degree. He then served as a professor at the University of Charleston from 1965 to 1995 and was the head of the Biology Department for many years. Mr. Nunley was selected as teacher of the year for 1994-1995. He also served as president of the Academy of Science.

Mr. Nunley was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and served as Chairman of the Educational Trust Fund. He served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Holmes and Carrie Caroline Nunley and by his brother, Samuel Holmes Nunley.

Mr. Nunley is survived by his wife, Ramona Kidwell Nunley; sons, Mark Andrew Nunley and his wife, Michelle of Louisville, Ky, Michael Gray Nunley and his wife, Belu of Charleston and Paul David Nunley of Columbus, Ohio; and his daughter, Laura Lynn Stafford and her husband, Joe of Charleston. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Monty Brown officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Wallace Memorial Gardens, Clintonville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
