Robert L. Shollenberger, 87, of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.
Robert was a graduate of Temple University, and in the 1950's, was working as a materials engineer working with steam turbine generators for Westinghouse, in Philadelphia. Then, in 1963, he transferred to Pittsburgh, working at the astronuclear laboratory, and worked with the design program for nuclear propulsion system for manned space flight. In the 1970's, Robert moved back to Philadelphia for a supervisory position with the company. Then in 1981, he moved to Florida to finish a 40-plus year career with the same company. He served his country in the US Army, during World War II and was awarded a bronze star.
Mr. Shollenberger is survived by his wife, Pamela Noland; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Richard Magraw of Virginia; son, John Shollenberger of Washington; stepdaughter, Laurie Ballou of Florida, Mary Kay Quick of Alabama; stepson, Neal Gowen of Tennessee; mother-in-law, Helen Darnell; step grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Teighlor, Paige.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless, Jr. officiating.
