"Speedy" Raines, Jr.
August 13, 1932 – February 1, 2025
Robert R. "Speedy" Raines, Jr., 92, of Dunbar, WV, entered eternal rest on February 1, 2025 following a brief illness.
He was born August 13, 1932 in Princeton, WV, the only child of Robert R. Raines, Sr. and Caroline Schwing Raines.
Robert graduated in 1950 from Dunbar High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Youngstown State University. Having worked as an accountant he went on to become a self employed businessman before retiring. He was always a witty and upbeat man and never met a stranger. He was an avid fan of WVU Mountaineers and enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially playing golf. A music lover, he enjoyed listening to and playing a variety of types and loved to sing in gospel quartets from time to time. Robert loved history and reading books. He enjoyed his involvement with his church, Roxalana Gospel Tabernacle.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Isabelle L. Linville Raines.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Judith L. Raines; children, Linda Frederick (Garry), Robert A. Raines, and Caroline Vingle (Steve); nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special 'thank you' to Janice Harris who cared for him at his home.
A funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor Tom Price officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
