Mr. Roger Lanham of Smithfield, NC formerly of Winfield, WV passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 17, 2023 while visiting friends in WV.

Roger was a professional truck driver for over 40 years, most of those years were with Overnite Transportation Company/UPS Freight.

Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Merri Assunta Lanham, and parents Virginia and Gerald Lanham.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Debbie Thompson Lanham of NC; son, Lee Lanham of SC; granddaughter Madison Lanham of NC; special uncle, Kenny Nelson of Jackson County WV.

He was an accomplished truck driver having received  many safety award along with his mentorship to younger drivers.  Roger was much respected by all who knew him.  He was a very active member of ATA's (America's Road Team) as well as his company's Road Team.  Even after retiring in 2009 and moving to North Carolina to be near his son and granddaughter, he still continued to offers help in numerous Truck Driving Championships, helping the drivers practice and working in the competitions and always spreading his message of "Safety First".

Roger was a friend to many, and will be greatly missed by all.

"Roger, as you take to the highway to Heaven, and your final mile is done we will take it from here.  Fly high "Red Feather"."

Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Friends may visit one hour prior to service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
