Ronnie Steven
Vanbibber
August 3, 1962 – July 13, 2025
Ronnie Steven VanBibber, know affectionately as Ron—or "Crusoe" to his fellow hiking friends—passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 62.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, on August 3, 1962; Ron graduated from Stonewall Jackson High in 1980, and lived a life marked by adventure, kindness, and a deep love for the people and places around him.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Ron found peace and purpose in nature. He hiked the Appalachian Trail, earning his trail name "Crusoe" from the many friends he made along the way. Whether trekking through the mountains, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, or swapping stories by the campfire, Ron brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
Ron was deeply devoted to his family and friends, and was known for his generous spirit, storytelling, and the genuine connections he formed with everyone he met. His heart belonged especially to his three beloved dogs: Coco, Roo, and Ellie Mae—his loyal companions on many adventures, lovingly known to him as "my baby girls".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred VanBibber and Mavis Keneske.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Bridget Yazell (Adam); his sons, Colton VanBibber (Rachel), Reece VanBibber, and Ryan VanBibber; his grandson, Brayden Yazell; and step-grandchildren, Calleigh and Nolan Yazell; and his siblings, David VanBibber (Tina) and Cara Lanham (Russel). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
A funeral service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, WV.
Family will welcome visitors two hours prior to the service at Keller Funeral
Home, Dunbar, WV.
Ron's legacy will live on in every trail walked, every story told by the fire, and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ron's honor to the Fix'Em Clinic at 102 Dee Drive, Charleston, WV 25311 or the Coal River Group at PO Box 363, St. Albans, WV 25177—two organizations that reflect Ron's deep love for animals and the great outdoors.
