Rosa Jane Moore Thornton, 93, of Dunbar, received the call to come home on the morning of April 22, 2015.
She was a resident of Dunbar for 74 years, a member of Dunbar First Baptist Church, the Dunbar Women's Club and for many years a member of the Green Valley Garden Club.
We celebrate, as she is now in the presence of those whom she has been longing for and calling out to for so very long, her parents, Scott and Glenna Moore; sister, Dollie Moore Fisher; five brothers, Selva, Ellsworth, Luther, John and Melvin Moore; her loving husband of 54 years, Leo Ray "Pete" Thornton, Sr.; and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Rosa is survived by those who loved her and will miss her greatly, son, L. Ray Thornton, Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Scott Depot; daughter, Karen Turley and husband ,Larry, of Dunbar; grandchildren, Todd Thornton, Leslie Inghram, Jamie Starnes, Jimelle Teter, Jodie Douglas, Vince Turley, and Jessica Russo; great-grandchildren, Kara and Lea Higginbotham, Erika Thornton, Brandon Hager, Kaylin and Meghan Starnes, Justin, Zachary and Corey Teter, Trey Turley, Weston Wellman, Ellie, Annie and Lily Russo; along with many nieces and nephews.
One great grandchild, Miranda Starnes, preceded her in death.
Rosa's family would like to sincerely thank her closest of friends, who were by her side during the most difficult times, as well as her caregivers, who showered her with love and compassion in her final days.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at Dunbar First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jason Quintrell officiating. Burial will follow in Creston Cemetery, Evans.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Dunbar First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to Dunbar First Baptist Church, 311 16th Street, Dunbar, WV 25064, in memory of Rosa.
