Ruby Pickens Dean, 88, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., passed away May 2, 2009, at the Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center.
She had been a resident of Florida since 1941 and of Ft. Walton Beach since 1947. She was born May 20, 1920 in Dunbar to the late Mabel and Hubert Pickens and married A. W. Dean in Crestview, Fla. in July, 1941.
Ruby loved her family, life, people, crafts, flowers and animals all of her life. She traveled the world, loved Ft. Walton Beach and her native West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Temple and Emily Reedy and by her brother, Russell Pickens.
Surviving are her two sons, Tom Dean (JoAnn) of Dayton, OH and Donald Dean (Liz) of Mesa, AZ; sisters, Wanda Arnott (Kenneth) of Dunbar, Vada Miller (Clyde) of Sissonville; brothers, Selbert Pickens (Anita) and Noble Pickens (Betty) of Dunbar. Ruby is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 30, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Tom Price officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park.
