Ruby G. Gibson, of Dunbar, finished her work on earth and joined her husband and other family members for their eternal journey together on Sunday, February 9, 2014. She died peacefully at home under the loving watch and care of close family and hospice after a long illness.
Ruby, a lifelong resident of Dunbar, was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ulysses H. (Jack) Gibson; parents, Jasper A. and Della E. Guthrie; and twin brothers, Roy N. and Ray G. Guthrie.
She is survived by daughters, Linda (Randy) Thomas of St. Albans, Lisa (John) Taylor of Weston; son, David (Cristina) of Savannah, Georgia; foster daughters, Poonam (Sachin) Deshponde of San Diego, California and Deepali (Veru) Paralikar of San Francisco, California; grandchildren, Christopher (Abby) Thomas of Altoona, Pennsylvania; Melissa Thomas of St. Albans, Rebecca (Brandon) Frye of Teays Valley, Robert E. L. Gibson of Chicago, Illinois, Jonathan and Alyssa Gibson of Savannah, Zack and Ian Taylor of Weston; foster granddaughters, Saya of San Diego and Rhea of San Francisco; great-granddaughter Emerson Lane of Altoona; nieces, Dolores (Harrison) Taylor of Dunbar and Barbara (Allen) Hunt of Scott Depot; nephew, Wayne (Lana) Guthrie of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; cousins and very beloved friends.
Ruby completed high school at Dunbar High School before working in the office of Lowenstein and Sons Hardware Wholesalers in Charleston. She then married and relocated to several cities with her husband who proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. After returning to Dunbar, she began a remarkable career as a homemaker and mother. Additionally, she enriched the lives of hundreds of people giving them the gift of music as a piano teacher. Later in life she and Jack journeyed the world as a promoter of unity for Christ's church and enjoyed the blessings of countless new friendships and acquaintances.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, February 13 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Visitation for friends and family will be two hours prior to the service on Thursday.
In appreciation of and support for the compassionate, considerate and kind care provided, the family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to be made to Hubbard Hospice House West, 4605 MacCorkle Av SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.
