Russel Leo Talley, Sr., 87, of Nitro, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Greensboro, NC and was retired from the US Navy, having served in WW II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Talley was also a retired Baptist minister and was a member of the Cross Lanes Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Carolyn Talley; sons, Russel L. Talley, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Garner, NC, Paul S. Talley and his wife, Amey of Jacksonville, FL and Curtis S. Talley and his wife, Melissa of Waynesboro, GA; daughter, Dianne B. Lawson (Mrs. Jimmy R.) of Cumming, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Sandra M. Ritchie and her husband, Steve, Jason M. Talley, Alexis L. Talley, Dimple J. Talley, Bishop James Talley and Vincent G. Talley and great grandchildren, Hunter and Tanner Ritchie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, at the Cross Lanes Baptist Church with the Rev. Seth Polk officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the Cross Lanes Baptist Church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
