Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Lee Boswell, 57, of South Charleston, traveled West Virginia's Country Roads to her Heavenly Home on Friday, June 24, 2016 after she and her dear friend Joni Adams lost their lives while trying to evacuate during the 2016 West Virginia Flood.

Sandy was born on Jan. 4, 1959, the second daughter of the late Samuel W. and Marie (Bibbee) Boswell. A top 10 graduate of Dunbar High's Class of 1977, Sandy played in the first ever West Virginia State Girl's Basketball Championship game in the fall of 1976; the Bulldogs went 25-0 on the season and Sandy was named to the WV All-State First Team. She also was the first winner of the 5K Charleston Distance Run. Sandy continued her education by completing both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Accounting at Marshall University.

Throughout her career, she worked for Columbia Gas and Pepsi-Cola. She loved outdoor landscaping, watching Marshall, WVU and the Cincinnati Reds, and making memories with her friends and family who cherished her heart of gold, beautiful smile, and easy laughter. Sandy always wrote and shared words of encouragement, praise, and thanks. She went out of her way to help those in need, willing to give the shirt off her back to aid the less fortunate.

Sandy is survived by her sister, Terry Boswell of Dunbar; beloved aunts, Ora Thornton of Dunbar and Martha Boswell of Ripley; the "Memorial Day Crew": Mary Ellen Ray of Wayne, Lynn Thornton of Dunbar, Sherry and Adena Barnette of Evans; her "bestest" friend, Tammy Brotherton Dacken of Baltimore, OH; and many loving cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, many cherished uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A service to celebrate the life of Sandy will be held at Dunbar United Methodist Church on Saturday July 2 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Okey Harless officiating.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Dunbar United Methodist Church for their BackPack Buddies Program or WV Flood Relief, 1401 Myers Ave, Dunbar, WV 25064 or the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311.
