Sefus Ellis, 63, departed this life Saturday , September 4, 2021.

He was born May 8, 1958 to Percy and Cora Mae Ellis, in Rockford, Illinois.

Sefus received his education in the Rockford public school system. After graduating high school, he attended West Virginia State University, where he received a BS degree in Accounting. Sefus served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1992. He retired from Plumber's and Pipefitter's Local Union 625, after 23 years of service as a Journeyman Pipefitter.

Sefus enjoyed his family and friends and loved joking with everyone He was an avid and excellent chess player and participated in many tournaments throughout the United States.

Sefus is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clinton and Ronnie; sisters, Bert Person and Beatrice Goodwin; and grandson, Langston Francis.

Sefus is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Chyra Ellis and Tiara Francis (J.R); former wife, SoJuana Ellis; sister, Mary Hicks (Dave) of Rockford, Il; brothers, Percie Ellis (Denise) and David Ellis (Sonia) of Rockford, Il; sisters-in-law, Chris of Rockford, Il and Loree of Colorado; grandchildren, Tyara, Trequan, Antonio, Christopher, Tyrell, J., and Angelo; great-grandchildren, Miara, Zyara, and Josie; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A special thank you to our mother SoJuana, for the care she provided our father during his illness.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 10 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.

Friends may visit thirty minutes prior to the service at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
