Obituary

Shirley Eugene Bailey, born on April 17, 1925, from Pocatalico and attended Sissonville High School was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 23, 1943. He was sent to France as a Medic and was seriously wounded on July 11, 1944.

After Eugene was released from the hospital, he was sent to the front lines in Germany to the Battle in Hürtgen Forest. While attending to a wounded soldier, Eugene was killed by enemy fire on November 29, 1944.

After being missing for 73 years the U.S. Army has brought him home.

Eugene is survived by his two sisters, Helen Francisco (Carl) of Charleston and Alma Bell of Barboursville; also many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

A graveside service will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, December 2, at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. David Bush officiating.

A funeral procession will leave at 12:45 p.m. from Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
