Shirley Jean Escue, 72, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 12. 2021 after a short illness.

She was born on July 23, 1948, in Charleston, to the late Clarence and Hettie Hanshaw.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She dearly loved her one and only grandson, Judah. Shirley was the favorite aunt and the life of the party. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Seamus Escue; one sister; and four brothers.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of nearly 58 years, Jesse Escue; son, Noah Escue and wife Robyn of Charleston; grandson, Judah Escue of Charleston; sisters, Gertrude George of Lake Mary, FL and Barbara Patton and husband James of Charleston; brothers, Harry Hanshaw and wife Loretta of Charleston and Wayne Hanshaw and wife Terri of Charleston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at Maranatha Baptist Church, Tuppers Creek with Pastor T. Kevan Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at Maranatha Baptist Church, Tuppers Creek.
