Sidney Edward Frye, 88, of Charleston, WV passed away on February 8, 2023 after a short illness.

He was born on January 18, 1935 to Charles and Nola Frye in Logan County.

After graduating from Charleston High School in 1954 Sidney went to work for Matthews Printing Company before starting a career in law enforcement with the Charleston City Police Department. He later became the Chief of Police with the South Charleston PD and then finished his career as an Investigator with the State Medical Examiner's Office. Sidney earned a BS in Sociology from West Virginia State University and was a graduate of the National FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. He was a member of the 32nd degree Scottish Rite and enjoyed cooking, gardening (he was always a farmer at heart), woodworking/handyman projects.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Charlotte Frye; son, Scott Frye (Ruth) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Heather, Erica (Eddie) and Nicholas (Breanna); and great-granddaughter, Everly Frye; step-children, Chris (Lisa), Philip and Robert Wood; grandchildren, John and Christina; great-granddaughters, LaRhia and MaLeah.

A gathering with family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 at Keller Funeral Home, 1236 Myers Ave. Dunbar, WV 25064.
