Obituary

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit have requested the presence of Sister Lucille White, 88, of Charleston, WV to attend her Heavenly celebration for her many years of faithful service.  She peacefully accepted her invitation on Sunday, July 13, 2025, and said goodbye to all those she loved.

Lucille was a lifelong resident of Charleston, one of seven children born to the late Seaman and Mary Rose Eldridge.  She attended schools in Kanawha County.  A woman filled with faith and wisdom, she touched the lives of so many.  Whether she served you at the Shoppe at CAMC Memorial, or rode on her elevator at CAMC General, or drove through her line at Town Center parking garage, or if she ushered you to your seat at Shiloh or any church in the valley, her life was service.

Lucille was a 40-plus year member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she was in attendance every Sunday until the decline in her health.  She served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, usher board, and Bible Bowl coach.  She loved prayer meeting and Bible study.  Teaching Sunday School and coaching Bible Bowl were her passion, but serving Jesus and being the matriarch of her family was her life.  Her words of wisdom to all was to "KEEP GOD FIRST".

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Lorene White; her husband, Ernest M. White; her daughter, Frances "Fran" White; her two sons, Michael and Ernest R. While; her sisters, Mary Freeze, Elizabeth McCray, Carrie, Helen, and Frances Eldridge.

Left to cherish Lucille's memory are her daughters, Demetrius "Dee" Garnett and Angela "Angie" White both of Charleston, WV who where her caregivers, Marian Myers of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth "Durrah" Dandridge of Detroit, MI; her brother, Robert Eldridge (Sandy) of Summerfield, FL; her grandchildren, Candi Smoot, Wesley Eddens, Amber and Ashley Myers all of Charlotte, NC, Rashawn Garnett and Kevin Lamont Nelson of Charleston, WV; her great-grandsons, Marc Smoot and Harry Bennett of Charlotte, NC; five great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; along with her special son and daughters, Mark Mason of Charleston, WV, Sheila Brown of Winchester, VA, and Joyce Brown of Charlotte, NC.

Lucille will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Charleston with Pastor Marlon Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Family will welcome visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
