Obituary

Stanley E. "Stan" Taylor, 69, of Sissonville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

He was born on March 5, 1953 in Oceana, WV. To Hilda Allen Taylor and the late, George Taylor, Sr.

Stan was raised and educated in Oceana. After completing high school he went to serve our country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corp. Upon leaving the service, he returned to his home state and began working as a supervisor for the grounds and maintenance department in the town of Belle.

He joined the Douglas Barrels, Inc. family in 1994 and quickly established himself as both a valued employee and a highly respected craftsman by the clients of the company as well as in the long range.

During his tenure there, Stan continued to hone his skills as a precise and accurate long-range shooter, a talent he discovered during his time in the Marines. He belonged to the International Bench Rest Shooters, 1,000 yd. brotherhood, and during competition season he could often be found at White Horse Range in Buchannon or Hawks Ridge, NC. Earning the Shooter of the Year Award is an accomplishment of which he is very proud. Stan is considered by many to be an ambassador of the sport.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, John.

Stan is survived by his wife, Janet Fields Taylor, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage; mother, Hilda; four siblings, Angela, Sharon, David and George; children, Sharon, Bobby and his wife Mandee, Sean and his wife Kerriann, Sam and his wife Jeanna and Christina and her husband Maurice; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar with Pastor David Keeney officiating.
