Obituary

Sue Sergent of Charleston passed away after a short illness on Monday, March 7, 2011.

Friends may attend services at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 10, at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Rey of Hope Fellowship House; 1429 Lee Street, East; Charleston, WV 25301.

Sue was born on August 1, 1932 in Centralia, Illinois and after attending the University of Illinois, re-located to South Charleston, in 1952 with her then husband, William Proops, and shortly thereafter started a family. While raising four children, she enjoyed cooking Chinese cuisine, playing bridge and gardening, was active with the local Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the Charleston Symphony, and Community Theatre outreach. Sue completed her nursing degree at Morris Harvey College in 1971, and began her nursing career at Charleston General Hospital. She retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital after over 20 years of service. When her health declined, she moved to Charleston Gardens.

Sue was pre-deceased by her husband, Bob Sergent formerly of Dunbar and Charleston, her parents Edith and Ray and brother, Richard, all of Centralia, Illinois. She is survived by her four children, Michael Proops of Charleston, Douglas Proops of New York City, Russell Proops of Morristown, NJ, Carol Proops Milam of Nashville, TN, and seven grandchildren. She was a long-time friend of Bill W.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
