She was the daughter of Opal Bender Noyes and William C. "Doc" Noyes of Dunbar, WV. Mrs. Noyes died in 1989 and Mr. Noyes died in 1959.
Mrs. Day attended Dunbar public schools and earned a bachelor's degree in English and French Education from Marshall University. Her teaching experiences began in Columbus, Ohio, at the Hamilton Township Junior High School and continued at Hayes Junior High School in St. Albans. She was chosen to plan and implement a program for those students identified as intellectually gifted. Students were provided many academically challenging opportunities. Many students won speech contests and scholarships through training and experiences that began at Hayes with Mrs. Day. In 1991 she was named St. Albans Teacher of the Year and honored at a luncheon. In 2005 Mrs. Day was recognized as an outstanding teacher at the Governor's Honors Academy.
Travel and reading were sources of joy to Mrs. Day. She was a volunteer tutor through the St. Albans Housing Authority and later through the Kraft Family YMCA in Apex, NC. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fuquay-Varina where she taught Sunday school, organized the Angel Tree, and served on the outreach committee.
