On November 21, 2010, Sutton Murdick Hoover expired at CAMC – Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
His soul is now in our Heavenly Father's hands and his suffering is over. He was met by his loving wife, parents and brother, whom he had missed for so many years.
Sutton was born on August 3, 1925 in Indiana, PA. He was the first-born son of Daisy and John Hoover. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Barger Hoover; parents, Daisy and John Hoover; and 3 brothers, Alex, Don and Von Hoover. He was the namesake of his maternal grandfather, Sutton Hammond Murdick. He adored his maternal grandmother, Permilia Ellen Murdick and he often spoke of how she spoiled him as a child.
Sutton and his wife raised a family of four children: Linda, Martin, Larry and Dana. He lived with Linda and Gary Given, his daughter and son-in-law, since February 2009. He is survived by his children: Linda and Gary Given of Nitro, Dana and Randall Dudding of Charlotte, NC, Larry Hoover of Charleston, and Brenda and Martin Hoover of Denver, CO. His surviving brother, John C. Hoover lives in Pine Flats, PA. His grandchildren are: Stacy and Gregory Hoover and Chance McCoy Hoover of Denver, CO, Robb and Susan Given of Lost Creek, Kelly and Ryan Larck of Scott Depot, and Geoffrey, Kyle and Holly Dudding of Charlotte, NC. He has seven great grandchildren.
He attended school in Indiana County, PA. His high school years were stressful because he was needed to help on the family farm and WW II was in full force. He was eventually drafted into the Army and received an honorable discharge on November 8, 1944. He and his wife, Mae, raised their family of four children in Pennsylvania and later, West Virginia. He retired as Vice President of Teamsters Union Local 175 in 1985 and served as a Business Agent prior to that.
Sutton was born and raised a Lutheran, but after moving to WV attended primarily Presbyterian churches. He was a well-organized and disciplined person who had zero tolerance for laziness or excuses. He liked a structured life and did not adapt well to spur-of-the-moment plans. He loved nice clothes and was often teased about being so handsome that he could be a model.
Following the death of his wife, he became very involved in church. Although he attended several churches, he was a member of Eleanor Presbyterian Church in Eleanor.
May God rest your soul, Dad, and grant you the peace and rest you have so deservingly earned. Give Mom a kiss from us.
