Sylvester Mason Buckner, passed from this life on February 10, 2008.
A longtime resident of Dunbar, he was born January 3, 1915, at Vila, WV, the son of Robert E. Buckner and Lula Ora Buckner.
He was retired with 45 years service at FMC in South Charleston. In addition, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during WWII. As one who loved all things mechanical, after retirement, he spent several years repairing Volkswagens for people throughout the Charleston area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Oleeta Ruth Ferrell Buckner of Dunbar, Daughters; Leora Marie Zeller of Newport News, VA and Maidah Murdayne "Mimbi" Harrison of Dunbar and son Joseph Mason Buckner of Monroe, GA. Further, he is survived by 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Dunbar United Methodist Church, Grosscup Avenue Sanctuary, with the Rev. Dr. Okey B. Harless officiating. Following cremation, his remains will be interred at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Golden Living Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Mr. Buckner in his final days.
