Sylvia Bess, 80, of Dunbar, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2018.

She retired from City National Bank, Kanawha City after over 20 years of faithful service. Her co-workers there, as well as other employment, counted themselves fortunate. She was loved by everyone blessed to know her, friends and family alike. Sylvia enjoyed bluegrass and country music, trips to festivals and Nashville.

Sylvia was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. No amount of effort or sacrifice was too great in providing whatever her children needed. Despite sometimes challenging circumstances, she always provided delicious food, clothing, attention, instruction, and most importantly the love they needed. She really couldn't give enough of herself and never complained. Most people believe their mother to be the greatest, Sylvia's children most certainly believed her to be. So, claim our Savior's grace, Mom. Enjoy your new found peace. Sing and praise God with the angels and loved ones you have missed for so long.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lawrence Bess; brothers, Luther and Kody Wass; sister, Betty Thurman; and parents, Ted and Dessie Wass.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Phyllis; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Winnie Bess of Kenova; granddaughter, Sylvia; a very beloved niece, Ann Quinn, and nephew, Michael Thurman, both of Columbus, OH. Sylvia had enjoyed the holidays in recent years with Ann and Michael.

A private family burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sylvia's name to Hubbard Hospice House West, 4605 MacCorkle Ave. SW, South Charleston, WV 25309. They provided great respite and comfort during her final hours.
