Obituary

Thelma Lee Tyson, 76, of St. Albans joined her eternal love Arthur Lee Tyson in Heaven on February 11, 2024.

She was born on August 13, 1947 to the late Ed Long and Thelma Brown.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack, Ed, William "Buzzard", and Charles "Goldie" Long; her sister, Mary Lue; and her sons, Edward and Tijuan Tyson.

Thelma was affectionately known as Lee-Lee and was the Matriarch of the Tyson family. She was respected for her "tell it like it is" attitude, and loved by all who came to know her. Her name was legendary for hosting gatherings of all kinds; holidays, barbecues, and a good ole fashion game of spades. Her cooking skills were nothing short of amazing. You would be a fool not to come running when her chicken and tender brisket were done. Lee-Lee had a beautiful eclectic eye for home decor. Some of which she would make with her own hands. She would use those same hands to work hard and provide for her family. Caring for others was her life purpose. She did that up until she was not able to anymore. Whether she was putting a roof over someone's head or food in their belly and love in their heart. Lee-Lee made broken look beautiful and strong invincible. She was bold and unique like her signature drink there will never be another like Lee-Lee Tyson.

Thelma was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful attendee and she served well until illnesses prevented her from coming regularly.

She is survived by her sons, Jerome (Kristen), James "Cutty", Fred (Kim), Charles, and Mike Tyson; daughters, Elizabeth, Alexis and Christina Tyson, and Dorothy "Ann" Johnson; sister, Jane Hudgens (Lewis Lacy); brother, Gino Long; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, at First Baptist Church, 432 Shrewsbury St., Charleston, with Rev. Paul Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
