Thurmond Poynter, 88 years of age, of Middleport, Ohio and formerly of Charleston, passed away at home on March 4, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
He worked for Harris Construction and retired from K-Mart Corporation.
He was a veteran of WWII and served under General Patton of the 3rd Armored Division. He received a purple heart and 3 bronze stars. He was a life member of post 9926 of the VFW of Mason, OH and DAV.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Betty Ann Poynter.
He is survived by 1 son, Dale Poynter of Waynesboro, VA; 2 daughters, Pamela Jenkins of Middleport, OH and Fran Nelson of Springfield, OH; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Hazel Smith of Genesee, MI.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Kanawha Valley Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064 or Gallipolis Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, OH, 45631.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial immediately following in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
The family will greet friends at Keller Funeral Home, beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday.
