Tilden W. "Barney" Skiles, 83, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2007 in Hubbard Hospice House.
He was born, one of eleven children, in Ward on July 16, 1924 on his father's birthday, and was named after him. Barney attended Rebecca Chapel and was a dedicated Christian and loving husband. He retired from Union Carbide with 35 years of service and he served his country in the US Army during World War II.
He was an avid bowler and was secretary-treasurer of the BPAA for 28 years, and secretary of youth bowling for 26 years. He bowled a perfect game in 1968 and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998.
Mr. Skiles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Skiles; daughters, Cynthia Collins of Newark, DE, Linda Smith of Dunbar; grandchildren, Angela Craner, Lisa West, and her husband, Robert, Timothy Smith, and Michael Smith; brother, Claude Skiles of South Charleston; great grandchildren, Alisha West, Amber Lynn West, Megan Craner, and Victoria Belanger.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Rebecca Chapel, 147 Moran Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, at Rebecca Chapel, Dunbar, with the Rev. Ron Nida officiating. Interment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 10, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
