Tony James Ward

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tony James Ward, beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, who left us on August 28, 2026, at the age of 47 after an extended illness. Born on August 17,1979, in Charleston, West Virginia, Tony touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and generous spirit.

Tony was the cherished son of Santina M. and the late Ronald Ward, who instilled in him a love for life and an enduring sense of compassion.

A member of Amplify Church in Big Chimney, Tony was a man of faith who valued community and service.

A dedicated professional, Tony was a long-haul chemical tanker truck driver and proudly worked for Slay Transportation until his retirement in December 2022 due to health issues. His work commitment was evident in his diligence and the respect he earned from his colleagues and friends alike.

Tony’s passions were as varied as they were vibrant. He found joy in working on his vehicles, constructing intricate Lego sets, flying his drone, and practicing at the shooting range. Known for his quick wit and infectious smile, Tony was always ready with a joke or a smart comment to lighten the mood. His kind heart and generosity were legendary, and he ensured that family and friends felt his love and appreciation every day.

He was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Mary Jelsomine, whom he held dear in his heart.

Tony is survived by his devoted wife of seven years, Melissa, with whom he shared a joyful marriage filled with love, laughter, and the companionship of their two beloved fur babies, Major and Gracie.

He is survived by his loving mother, Santina M. Ward; his brother, Ron Ward (Tara); his nephew, Michael Ward; his niece, Kristin Ward (Partner Jacki); his aunt, Teresa Morgan (Don); cousins, Chris Morgan and John Morgan. He is also survived by many friends who became family. Tony cherished every moment spent in the company of his family and friends.
