Una Ruth Johnson-Bailey passed peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2015, after having battled mightily a recent illness. She, in her last days, assured those who loved her of her readiness to meet her Saviour.
Mrs. Bailey was born on November 11, 1927 in Sissonville. Una, an independent spirit and strong-willed woman was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Ray Orville Bailey. Una was known by all in her community of Dunbar, as she worked for over three decades at the local Kroger, was a well-known seamstress, bowled in a local league for many years and raised her two sons, James Ray Bailey and Daniel Jay Bailey in Dunbar.
Una leaves behind her two adult sons and their spouses: Jim and Rozanna Bailey of Scott Depot and Danny and Melissa Bailey of Roanoke Virginia. She was, also, blessed with four grandchildren who lovingly called her "Grandma B". Grandma B's grandchildren include: April Jackson and her spouse, Jamie; Eric Bailey and his spouse, Tiffany; and, Blair and Madison Bailey. Una was loved by her great grandchildren: Raygen Jackson, Palmer Bailey and Jaxon Bailey.
Una, one of ten children, was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Altha Mathews Johnson. She was, likewise, preceded in death by five of her siblings: Jacqueline Johnson; Charles Johnson; Mary Bostic; Nancy Nelson; and, Delores ("Tiny") Lewis. She is survived by four siblings: Eloise Miller, Lois ("Sis") Sisson, Rose Smith and her baby brother, Bill Johnson. Una found much comfort in her four-legged friend and companion, Jake.
In honor of her stated desire, a private service for family will be held at Keller Funeral Home on Sunday, October 18th at 4:00 p.m. Her childhood and lifetime friend, Reverend Donald ("Buddy") Gatewood will preside over the memorial. On Monday, October 19th, Una will be ushered to her final resting place, Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, by her family.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the Hubbard Hospice House and its staff members for the excellent care provided to not only Mrs. Bailey, but to her family as well during her final days.
